Chapter 3 - Principles of social media

Into the 3rd chapter of this class, we go,

and I continue to love what we are learning about, which is why I picked this up as a minor last semester, and I am enjoying it! We are beginning to learn about Social Media Marketing, which involves my major and minor so I am killing two birds with one stone here.

We talked about the meaning of social media and just how powerful it can truly be in attracting people to yourself or even your company, it can retain so many things. For example, a social media marketing strategy outlines the strategies and tactics that a company can incorporate into their business and use for the future. We learned the 10 steps in the social media marketing strategy and they can be very affective for me. Step 3, is to establish your goals, objectives and metrics and not only is that important in social media marketing, but I feel as if it is important in life too. Step 6 was also important too, which is picking your platform and trust me, there is plenty of platforms, but my preferred platform will always be Twitter. I pick Twitter because it is very popular for all ages, you can retweet, quote and like tweets and even republish them and feel as if it's the best platform to get things out there on. The final step, step 10 which can sometimes be the most important, is to track, analyze and tune your social media platforms. You can have an unreal amount of followers, but if the word is not getting out there and you are not getting likes, it truly doesn't matter and means you need to fix things. That is why it is so important to track and analyze the things you are putting out and seeing if they are truly getting out there.

We also talked about using a SWOT analysis to measure your strengths and weaknesses and making sure the things you do are strong and get the point across. My favorite thing I have learned in this class by far came in this chapter and this is we need to make sure our goals are SMART, which means specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time based. I love that acronym not only for my future but just for my life in general, those are great things to keep.

  1. That’s a really good point about SMART goals. SMART really can be applied to just about any scenario, whether it is in your personal, academic, or professional life. I have had SMART goals taught in a lot of my classes at ONU. The most important parts to me are the A and T which stand for attainable and time based. Without these two there is no point. The other letters are definitely important as well, but A and T are the easiest to define and get started on immediately. It is also possible that you will need to start on a goal immediately to determine how to define achieving the full goal. For example, if your goal is to start saving money you might not know how much money you can avoid spending without attempting to stop first. Once you know what money you can stop spending, then you can work on defining more specifics of your goal to save money.

Marketing Campaigns

We can use many things in the social media world to our advantage, including social media marketing campaigns. In short, it is a campaign used to target an audience and advance your business and company in the long-run. It can also come from actions that can lead to influencers or audience to certain types of things. These campaigns can be most affective just like a lot of other things and that is by setting your goals and audience before you start your campaign.      You need to know where you want your campaign located at and what you want it to do. For example, social media is the main spot but you can also have it in other spots that can reach awareness also. Having your target audience is important, but you also want to know what the people in your target audience are interested with. For example, the social media apps that they are most active on, older people are more active on Facebook versus Snapchat, so it is important to know that. Also, setting a...

Music Cures All

At a young age I fell in love with music and have never looked back. I remember being a young kid and always asking for an iPod so I could download a bunch of music. Always having my headphones in before my travel basketball and football games and just enjoying it. Back then, I just wanted to look cool and didn't truly understand music like I do now. Music helps me with everything including basketball, school, anxiety and just relaxing, it is great.      I listen to music anytime I can, especially when relaxing or working out. I like to experiment so I truly like a lot of different genres and songs, but if I had to pick one forever it will always be rap. Over the last year I started listening to an artist called Rod Wave and haven't stopped listening to him since. The main reason I always listen to him is because I feel like we relate on a lot of stuff and he puts his true feelings into his songs so it is real and relaxing. I have always liked country ...

Chapter 1-7

After finishing our midterm in this class, I feel as if it can be a good time to talk about the first seven chapters and the things I have learned about social media. I am actually taking this class because I decided to pick up social media as a minor and I am beyond glad I did it because I  thoroughly enjoy learning about different aspects in social media. This is something that really sparked my interest because I feel like the whole world is ran by social media and cellphones.      Through the first half of this class so far we have learned about all the main social media apps. These include: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Snapchat. I enjoyed learning about all of them but my favorite was Twitter and that is because it is my favorite app and I also feel as if it is the best app to promote yourself and your business. Twitter is the app I have had the longest so I enjoyed hearing some information about it that I have never heard. For examp...
